Custom Recycled Snowboard Watches: Time Well Spent

When Shopify’s founder expressed a passion for snowboarding and sustainability, SKRP saw an opportunity to merge both worlds into something unforgettable — custom watches made from recycled snowboards. Each piece was designed to capture the soul of the mountains, handcrafted from boards that had already lived a lifetime of adventure.

The Challenge

Shopify wanted to celebrate its roots and leadership culture through a truly meaningful corporate gift. The ask: something that reflected creativity, sustainability, and a deep respect for craft — while connecting personally with the founder’s love for snowboarding.

The challenge lay in transforming worn-out snowboards — made of layered materials like wood, resin, and fiberglass — into precision-crafted timepieces that felt both refined and authentic.

Our Approach

We started by collecting retired snowboards from local riders and mountain communities, each carrying the marks of countless runs and seasons. These boards were carefully deconstructed, with usable layers extracted, pressed, and shaped into unique watch faces and bezels.

Every watch was handcrafted in small batches at the SKRP workshop, combining reclaimed snowboard laminate with precision metalwork. The result: a sustainable, functional, and deeply personal keepsake — a literal embodiment of “time well spent.”
