When Facebook launched its Green Office Initiative, the goal was simple: make sustainability visible. SKRP partnered with their team to transform 100s of discarded shipping pallets into something beautiful and functional — handcrafted desk planters that added a touch of nature to every workspace.
Facebook wanted to create an office environment that felt fresh, natural, and meaningful — not just through décor, but through design choices that supported circular economy principles. The challenge was to produce hundreds of planters that reflected craftsmanship, environmental responsibility, and brand integrity.
We began by sourcing reclaimed pallets from local suppliers — each one unique in texture and tone. Every board was cleaned, milled, and finished by hand in our workshop. The aim was to preserve the story of the wood: its knots, marks, and patina that carried the character of its previous life.
After prototyping several planter designs, we settled on a modular format that worked for both small succulents and larger desk plants. The final design combined modern lines with rustic warmth — a balance that reflected Facebook’s creative, collaborative culture.
Over 500 reclaimed pallet planters were delivered to Facebook’s offices as part of their internal sustainability rollout. Each piece served as a daily reminder of the company’s environmental commitments — turning waste into something that literally grew life.
These upcycled planters not only enhanced the workspace but also inspired conversation around sustainable manufacturing and the beauty of reuse.
